Research Internships with FPRCH
Every year we are excited by the interest students express about being our partners in
research. We want to ensure that this experience is
positive for students and for our team. To achieve that end, starting in May 2024, we will be offering two new tracks for research interns.
research. We want to ensure that this experience is
positive for students and for our team. To achieve that end, starting in May 2024, we will be offering two new tracks for research interns.
Track 1: Year-long research implementation internship:
Goal: To offer students a structured experience with research implementation, including such skills as participant recruitment, data collection, data entry, data abstraction and elementary analysis. This track offers exposure to clinical research mechanics, clinical practice environment, working with patients and clinicians, and understanding the incorporation of research protocols into clinical workflows. Other opportunities for assisting with data analysis, manuscript writing and manuscript preparation/submission may be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications for positions starting September 2025 will be availabe here in May 2025.
Expectations:
Track 2: Supported self-directed research
Goal: Provides students (independently or in small groups) with support in developing and executing a research concept. Students will work with their faculty mentors to identity and refine a research question and conduct background research on the topic. Students will also work with their faculty mentor to develop a feasible research design and implementation steps. Students will be responsible for IRB submission as needed with support from their faculty mentor and the FPRCH research staff. Should funding be required, the research mentor will help the student identify appropriate funding opportunities; students will research and complete the associated applications for such funding. Students will work at a pace that aligns with their studies but will establish a timeline and complete their research accordingly. Students are expected to see their research through publication. Students interested in self-directed research should email Mary Tschann at [email protected].
